Frequently asked questions

How does The Belly Button work?

Before labor begins, the mother sets up notification groups in the app — usually her care team (OBGYN, midwife, doula), close family, and friends — and decides for each contact whether to reach them by push notification, SMS text, or email. When labor starts, she taps the in-app "Belly Button" once and the app dispatches notifications to everyone in the order and timing she configured.

Who pays for the app?

The mother pays a one-time $4.99 in-app purchase to unlock the labor-trigger feature. This is a lifetime unlock — there are no subscriptions, no recurring charges, and no upsells. Care providers and recipients (family/friends) use the app for free; they never see a paywall.

Will recipients need to install the app to receive notifications?

No. Recipients receive notifications via the channels the mother chose for them — push (requires the app), SMS text (does not require the app), or email (does not require the app). Most mothers use a mix.

What happens if a recipient's phone is on silent or Do Not Disturb?

For recipients who have the app installed and have opted in, The Belly Button can deliver iOS Critical Alerts that bypass silent mode and Do Not Disturb — because active labor is time-sensitive. Recipients can disable critical alerts in iOS Settings if they prefer.

Can I customize the notification messages?

Yes. The mother writes her own notification messages in advance — the app provides suggested templates as a starting point, but you can edit them to anything you like, in any language.

How do I add a partner to share access?

In Settings → Partner, tap "Link Your Partner" and share the invite link with them. Once linked, the partner has full app access and can both see updates and trigger notifications. Only one partner can be linked at a time.

How do I add my care provider?

In Settings → Care Team → Connect Care Provider. Your provider will need to download The Belly Button and create a provider-tier account, which gives them an invite code; enter that code in the app and you'll be linked. Care providers are notified first, with zero delay, regardless of any other group settings.

An SMS message wasn't received. What do I do?

SMS delivery depends on the recipient's carrier and country. If a recipient previously replied STOP to a Belly Button SMS, their carrier will block all future messages from us; ask them to text START to the same number to opt back in. If you suspect a delivery issue, email us at the address above with the recipient's phone number and we can check delivery logs.

How do I delete my account?

Account deletion instructions are at chemmoholdings.com/bellybutton/delete-account. Deletion is permanent and irreversible.

How do I report a bug?

Email us at admin@chemmoholdings.com with a description of what you were doing, what you expected to happen, and what actually happened. Screenshots help. Please include your device model and iOS version.

I have a feature request.

We'd love to hear it — same email address. Maternal apps live or die on real-world feedback, so concrete suggestions from real users carry weight.
