Bedside is an iPhone app for hospice and end-of-life vigils. When you tap the alert, everyone in your chosen circle gets a notification that breaks through silent mode and Do Not Disturb, so no one misses the call to come.

What Bedside does

One tap, one alert

You set up the circle in advance. When it's time, you tap once and everyone gets the same urgent notification at the same moment.

Breaks through silent mode

The alert is built to wake people up. A silenced phone at 3 a.m. won't keep the call from getting through.

You decide who's in the circle

Family, close friends, clergy, anyone you choose. Add by phone or email. They don't have to install anything to receive the alert.

Quiet by default

Bedside doesn't track you, doesn't ping you with reminders, doesn't sell your data. It exists for one moment and stays out of the way the rest of the time.

How it works

Set up the circle — add the names and numbers of the people who should be there when it's time. Confirm you have their permission. This takes a few minutes and only happens once.
Bedside waits — no pings, no reminders, no recurring messages. It's there when you need it.
When it's time, tap the alert — everyone in your circle gets a notification that overrides their silent mode and reads, plainly, "It's time. Come to the bedside."
Optional updates — you can send brief state updates if you choose ("Transitioning," "Has passed"). They reach the same circle.

Pricing

$4.99 USD — one-time purchase, no auto-renew. Six months of access from purchase. Receivers do not pay anything; they only need to be added to a circle.

What Bedside is not

Bedside is a personal-notification tool for families and the people they choose. It is not a medical device, electronic health record, or healthcare communication system. We do not store clinical information, diagnoses, hospice agency records, or anything that would be governed by HIPAA. We are not a HIPAA Covered Entity and we do not enter Business Associate Agreements. If a hospice or hospital wants to integrate something like this into clinical workflow, this is not that product.

Bedside is also not an emergency service. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call your healthcare provider or 911 first. Bedside is for the moment after, when the family needs to know.
